How to Compress and Decompress a ZIP file?

Anyone who ever completed a download from internet a file containing music or a chapter of a series, or a film, or any other type of file, know that usually these files (when not downloading using P2P as a Torrent or eMule, but through direct download) come with the extension .zip or .rar and that downloads once must be extracted into a folder to choice within the computer. These files are compressed files and to extract them, what we do is unzip them.

Compressed files are files that contain inside, at the same time, other files or documents that have been modified so that are smaller and can thus be more easily stored or transferred.

For this reason, files that may be too large to download from the internet or e-mail, as audio, image or video files are compressed and often also separated into several parts, so compression of files is a very useful tool for the exchange of files. Although probably many have already used this kind of files, now let's see how you uncompress and compress a file.

Different files contained in a zip or rar file can be compressed using different methods and staying within the file separately, so you can unzip or add new files without the need to decompress the entire file. A directory inside the zip file identifies which files contains and in what place within it. as we have seen, a file is compressed to reduce their size and thanks to this storage taking up less space or transfer it more easily. But only compressed files may be opened or modified through some specific programmes for this purpose. The most common are WinRar and WinZip.
